Chief Bratton has exhibited superior skills as the Chief of Police of the City of Los Angeles.
However, his endorsement of Jack Weiss for City Attorney represents an error in judgment. As an active member of the Watts Gang Task Force for the past two and one half years, I have witnessed how a viable, working partnership between the City Attorney’s office, the Police, and the Community can accomplish a true reduction in gang crime and violence. The 50% reduction in homicides in Watts is not an accident. It is the result of hard work by all.
As City Attorney I, Noel Weiss, look forward to working closely with Chief Bratton to duplicate and build on the success of the Watts Gang Task Force and expand it Citywide through an LA City Attorney Task Force which will implement the kind of progressive, practical, positive, pro-active, and principled law enforcement and intervention strategies that Los Angeles requires.
